We met Sam and Rachel in Taylor’s Falls, MN to shoot their portraits the day after we shot in Rochester, MN. Taylor’s Falls is their favorite spot and hangout and was a very stricking backdrop to photograph them in. Unfortunately, there was not the amount of snow that was present the previous day in Rochester.
The two will be getting married next summer at the historic Methodist Church in Taylor’s Falls.
Here are a few more images from the session.

We have upgraded our complimentary wedding book to a 10″ x 10″ hard cover Asuka coffee table book. After see this product at a recent convention and trade show we were so impressed that we decided to replace our current offering with this very high quality book.
Asuka allows us to design a cover graphic that will be printed directly on the hard cover, a factor we feel increases the attractiveness of the book. Asuka also offers an elegant EX book with thicker coated pages and soft cover books in a variety of sizes. We are adding several album packages that include a variety of Asuka’s books.

We met Chris and Rachael the day after Thanksgiving to photograph them for their December 26th wedding and true to Minnesota we got 3″ of fluffy white snow. We love shooting in the snow and especially had fun with a wintery urban shoot.
We began the shoot at the Rochester Art Center using it’s minimalist setting and modern archtecture as a backdrop. We then wandered downtown Rochester and captured Rachael and Chris as they enjoyed the years first measurable snow.

We photographed Nate and Dana the day after Ben and Marissa’s wedding. As is usually the case we worked on location at a place that had meaning to them. Dana had graduated from the College of St. Catherine (St. Kate’s) in St. Paul and she and Nate had their first kiss on the island of the campus’s pond. The abundance of leaves also provided an excellent opportunity for some play as the two chased each other with hands full of leaves.

Ben and Marissa got married on crisp late October Saturday. We began our coverage at the beauty shop photographing marissa and her wedding party as they prepared.

We followed them back to the church where they finished their prep and then we had some fun with the wedding party before the ceremony. Ben is almost a Ben Stiller look alike and had the guys rolling with his expressions. I used my favorite fish eye alot , I use it to really get close to my subjects and to help bring out a part of their personality.

After the ceremony we rushed to get the best light for more photos of the bridal party and families. The temp was a crip 46 degrees but everyone held up like true Minnesotans. We were able to get some outstanding shots during the sunset, which was nice since the sun set was a major part of our engagement session with Ben and marissa.

Lucky for me they had planned music and dancing ffor the reception. Why lucky? This is my favorite time to experiment. My approach to shooting activities is to capture the action and use it as the primary compositional element…and the action in dancing is movement together with lots of color and light. In the case of this wedding I slowed my shutter to 1/10 th of a second or less, and as the shutter tripped I zoomed my wide angle in or ourt very fast. The result is a kolidascope of color and light and if I did it right the motion ends or leads the eye to the primary subject. Here are a couple of examples:

As you can see above the technique can be used to accentuate the focus on a subject as well.

As I headed out for my morning walk with my buddy Loki (golden retriever pup) I was treated to a series of unnfolding images of the rising sun through the early morning fog. My walk usually involves a drive to Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis just across the Mississippi. On foggy mornings the river is a veritable kalidascope of abstract colors. This particular morning was esceptional. I decided to grab my camera in hopes of catching one of the two Bald Eagles I have seen haning out on the Lake’s shores, I didn’t get the Eagle but I got some amazing and in one case very interesting shots.
the shot above was taken as the sun rose over the Ford Bridge connecting St. Paul to Minneapolis. I turned around and faced east to see this one..

Here are a few others along the lake… still no eagle!!

That’s it for now..I will be posting others periodically in this section of the blog.

The day after we phtographed Jason and Liz in St. Cloud we traveled up to Taylor’s Falls, MN located on the St. Croix river and one of the oldest towns in Minnesota. Taylor’s Falls is also a popular hang out for white water kayakers and rock climbers, because of the falls and the glacial boulders and cliffs that are adjacent to the river. This location is also one of the the prime fall color spots in Minnesota at it was bursting with color!!!
The day was another gorgeous day and jason and Sarah were hard to keep up with. The couple are setting up an orphanage and school in Central America and will be moving there after they are married next June. jason is also a film maker and has produced a documentary that has helped raise money for the orphanage project.

We photographed Liz and her fiance’ Jason on a gorgeous October afternoon at Munsinger Gardens in St. Cloud MN. It was our first trip to the gardens which are on the banks of the Mississippi River and we couldn’t have asked for a better day. Jason and Liz were also a joy to photograph, in fact we just told them to play and we simply followed them around. this couple like all of our couples have a connection to art, Liz has a degree in art.
It is days like this and working with people like the ones we are treated to as clients that make me pinch myself to check if I am dreaming.

I had the pleasure to spend an October Saturday afternoon photographing families for the Edina Art Center’s holiday fund raiser. The Art Center’s media facility asked if I would help….of course I said yess, how could I turn down an opportunity to help an organization that has helped thousands reconnect with their creativity and or launch a creative career.
I took my nephew with me as an assistant and together we photographed four families throgh out the natural settings of the Art Center. We met some delightful people and ended up with some fantastic images.
