Bill Weaver Photographers bio picture

Welcome

Hi I’m Bill Weaver, founder and owner of Bill Weaver Photographers together with my wife Marsha and son Greg ( our videographer) we love helping people tell their stories. Whether your story tells  about your child’s first year, your relationship and wedding or your family we have a deeply held commitment to preserving  your story.

A note about this site...after several years using a Flash based site we decided to move everything over to a blog format. The format gives us a better chance to share our lives with our clients and potential clients and makes viewing our work easier and more personal. We have separate sections devoted to all of the different styles of photography that we do. Finally, since we are moving everything onto this format (until we get caught up) dates shown below each post reflect the day it was moved and not necessarily the date of the assignment. You can find them under the Category tabe in the menu bar above.

While we have lots of photographs here we also have an on line stock photo archieve that can be accessed by clicking on the Portfolio button on the menu bar.

Learn more about us and how we work by following the links below and checking out our photos and videos. A great place to start is by learning more about the people we work with, the challenges they face and how we help them realize their dream of preserving their story.Just click here to start your journey.

You can find information about how we work here

If you like what you have seen our services page summarizes our prices.

Finally, to learn more about us just go to Our Story Page.

Each section mentioned above can be found under the Pages tab in the menu bar.

Thanks for visiting and please feel free to leave comments or questions and we will get right back to you.

Our Story

Why do you do what you do?

We believe we have a unique gift to see stories in every part of life and especially stories involving people and their relationships to one another and to themselves. We also strongly feel that it is important for us to share that gift with the world by helping people tell and share their stories.

What kinds of experience do you have?

We have combined experience of well over 70 years but we are not Geezers! Seriously, Bill has been photographing since he was about 8 when he talked his father into showing him how to develop pictures… from then on he was hooked. Over the years he has used his photographic skills to capture motorcycle races in Japan, Saturday market in Bangkok, corporate architectural projects, political campaigns including the 2004 presidential race. Until he went digital Bill has also had a working darkroom for much of his life, where spend days experimenting and playing to get the exact representation of the image he saw when he clicked the shutter.

Marsha has about 25 years experience in photography. Getting into it in her college years she developed a strong affinity for travel photography especially capture the interaction of people and place. She also has transferred her love of nature into landscape and wildlife photography.

What other skills do you bring beside taking pictures?

Besides photography Bill brings a strong background and training in other creative arts. His design training gives him strong compositional skills by developing an ability to see beyond the obvious and compose in a way that reinforces the subject. He also has substantial illustration skills that when combined with his graphic design abilities enable him to offer many levels of story telling that few can offer.

Marsha’s adds an additional strength gained from years of managing projects in health care. Her many years spent in a clinical environment provides strong foundation for the people skills needed to direct clients.

What is your approach to story telling?

We can and do work differently with each client and  we begin our collaboration with discussions that help us identify our clients desires and outcomes. Once we have a general idea of those we then out line an approach and work together with our clients to refine it over time. Often the plan changes as a result of unanticipated opportunities which resolve with each client.

Who do you work with? What types of projects/commissions do you accept?

We work with individuals, young couples, families and organizations who want to collaborate in telling their story creatively.
Our commissions have included, birth to first birthday child stories, relationship and wedding stories, family life stories, pet stories, and organizational stories. Since we focus on telling stories and collaborating with clients in the process we accept commissions from people who place a high value on creative story telling and collaboration.

What happens when you contact us?

Our initial contact may be via e-mail or phone, regardless of the contact medium, we will  talk a little about your intentions, what you are looking for and how you might want to approach the process. We will also briefly discuss our approach, from style to values and if we mutually agree there is spark of compatibility we will schedule a meeting.

During the meeting we will ask more in depth questions about your goals for the project, start to clarify your style preferences and the level of collaboration you are comfortable with. We will also make available a large sample of work we have done that matches your needs. We will be looking for  points of connection through out the meeting and we will be verifying them as we go.

The meetings generally last about an hour to an hour and a half depending on how well we connect. They usually end with  (A) a strong feeling of connection that allows us to set a time for contract signing ( B) a desire to “sleep on it” by either of us or (C) a strong feeling that a working relationship may not be possible. If during the meeting or after we have” slept on it” we don’t feel a match we will happily provide you with referrals to a photographer better suited for you.
